Women and Aging Task Force
History: The Network's Task Force on Women and Aging was formed in February 2001
to fill the gap left by aging groups that have not always recognized the unique
needs of older women and traditional women's organizations which have not always
recognized the needs of older women. Members of the Task Force include experienced
professional advocates and community advocates, attorneys, academics, providers of
elder services, and older women consumers.
Mission: Through research, communication, education, and advocacy, the Task Force
works to ensure that older women have access to programs and services that are
appropriate to their needs and affordable, and which will enable them to live with
dignity and safety.
Issues: Each year the Task Force identifies issues on which to focus our work.
We recognize the urgency of a number of national issues that have certain unique
impacts on older women, among them proposals to "reform" Medicare and Medicaid and
to privatize some or all of Social Security. We will continue to monitor such proposals.
Current focus: The Wisconsin Elder Economic Security Initiative is the priority
project of the Task Force.
